OLTRETORRENTE – PIEMONTE

Oltretorrente is a small, independent, artisanal, family-run boutique winery situated on the gently rolling hills of the Tortona region, in Piedmonte.

In 2010, after having spent several years working for other more conventional winemakers, Chiara and Michele decided to embark on their own wine adventure. On the Oltretorrente estate, which covers only 7 hectares, they have been maintaining very old vines that were planted on the grounds over a century ago (five hectares of vineyards are 20 to 100 years old) to produce wines that embody all the history and biodiversity they come with.

Oltretorrente’s primary goal is to strike a balance between protecting and preserving the legacy old farmers left us, and – most importantly – producing top quality wines from these vintage vineyards according to organic standards so as to express the history, terroir and identity of the region.

They decided to harvest each cru separately to preserve the characteristics of the various environments through fermentation, maceration and ageing methods that are not standard for the grape variety and are not the same every year.
